Lindsay Davenport To Headline Charity Exhibition
The Landfall Foundation is pleased to announce American tennis superstar Lindsay Davenport will headline this year’s Legends of Tennis charity exhibition event hosted at the Country Club of Landfall’s Drysdale Sports Center complex. Proceeds from Legends of Tennis will go directly the Landfall Foundation’s grants programs to assist in awarding grants to local non-profits from the greater Wilmington area.
Davenport is one of the most accomplished American tennis players of the Open era with three Grand Slam Championships in singles; US Open (1998), Wimbledon (1999) and the Australian Open (2000), and three Grand Slam Championships in doubles; French Open (1996), US Open (1997) and Wimbledon (1999). Davenport won 55 WTA Tour Titles in singles and 38 WTA Tour Titles in doubles, is tied for seventh on most tour title wins of all time, is an Olympic Gold Medalist and was the first player to surpass the $22 Million Dollar mark in prize money, taking the honor from legendary player Steffi Graf.
Joining Davenport are returning players: Australian, Rennae Stubbs who won four Grand Slam doubles titles and over 60 WTA doubles tour titles, Jimmy Arias, once ranked as high as number five in the world and Luke Jensen of the famed Jensen Brothers and French Open winner.
Legends play will include singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
The Landfall Foundation has recently taken ownership of Landfall Foundation Legends of Tennis and will add this celebrity tennis exhibition fundraiser to its slate of annual charitable events. “The foundation is excited to bring Legends of Tennis under its umbrella,” said Landfall Foundation Chairman, Bill Hamlet. “Legends aligns perfectly with the foundation’s goals and mission and provides a great opportunity to help grow the foundation’s giving throughout the community to generate even more funds for local non-profits.”
Landfall Foundation Legends of Tennis will now be operated through the foundation’s Board of Directors in partnership with the Country Club of Landfall’s tennis staff and club members who will complete the organizing committee.
Comprised of Landfall residents, the Landfall Foundation’s mission is to provide funds to local non-profit organizations that provide support for the Arts, Education, and Health and Welfare in the greater Wilmington area. To date, the foundation has donated more than $2.7 million dollars through grants locally in the last eighteen years. Each year, along with individual donations, the foundation holds fundraising events such as the annual Gala, Art Show, Holiday Marketplace, Quintiles Marathon, and will now add Legends of Tennis to its lineup.
