“The foundation is beyond excited to bring Legends of Tennis under its umbrella,” said Landfall Foundation Chairman, Bill Hamlet. “Legends aligns perfectly with the foundation’s goals and mission and provides a great opportunity to help grow the foundation’s giving throughout the community to generate even more funds for local non-profits.”
Legends of Tennis will undergo a slight rebranding in 2014. “We are already underway to secure a big name headliner and are in the process of working through plans for this year,” stated Cindy Worden, Landfall Foundation Board Member and Legends of Tennis Chair. “The partnership between the club and the foundation is going to allow for optimal success and we can’t wait to share information with the entire community about attending and supporting this event!”
Legends play will include singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
The Landfall Foundation has recently taken ownership of Landfall Foundation Legends of Tennis and will add this celebrity tennis exhibition fundraiser to its slate of annual charitable events. Landfall Foundation Legends of Tennis will now be operated through the foundation’s Board of Directors in partnership with the Country Club of Landfall’s tennis staff and club members who will complete the organizing committee.
Begun in the early 1990’s and returning in 2011 after a nine-year hiatus, Legends of Tennis has been a staple event for Country Club of Landfall and the Wilmington community. In the last three years of its comeback, headlining players have included nine-time Grand Slam winner Monica Seles, five-time Grand Slam Winner Rennae Stubbs, and three-time Grand Slam winner Tracy Austin, have helped raise more than $65,000 for local non-profit organizations.
Comprised of Landfall residents and Country Club of Landfall members, the Landfall Foundation’s mission is to provide funds to local non-profit organizations that provide support for the Arts, Education, and Health and Welfare in the greater Wilmington area. To date, the foundation has donated more than $2.7 million dollars through grants locally in the last eighteen years. Each year, along with individual donations, the foundation holds fundraising events such as the annual Gala, Art Show, Holiday Marketplace, and will now add Legends of Tennis to its lineup.
